Thanks! :) How are you?
Good morning folks

I reckon Mother Nature has a bit of broody in her; she does like to throw a tantrum or two! Stay safe Fancy, Anniebee and everyone else. My thoughts are also with those who have been hit by and still in the path of Hurricane Matthew

I see on the BOM-site that Brisbane has a predicted maximum of 34C next Tuesday …

Howdy Emmsykate and peep peep peep, welcome to the thread; nice to meet you. LuckysMum Sending positive thoughts your way for a successful rehoming for some of your newbies. While I do not have any roosters to compare, I agree with Fancy that some of my hens, one in particular, probably out shines a few roosters when she wants attention but at least she does not start early in the morning. I learnt something yesterday which was both interesting and kinda cute … Crystal started asking to be let out at 02:30PM and as I was working on something tricky and needed to concentrate, I made a decision to take the risk of unsupervised free range until I finished at 4PM. They were quiet for the first 30 minutes and then they all congregated on the deck and started making lots of noise again. When I went out at 4, they were happy as … they did not just want out, they wanted their people also; they do love me.. lol.
Thank you!! :D :D
No news of note so just something to hopefully give you all a reason to chuckle ..........
Love it! Hahaha
I should be the happiest person around, with so many beautiful girls. :weee
Yes!! So true!! I love my chickens so much!!

Fancy .... so very sorry to hear about Wombles -- and the reason she departed this earth.   RIP to a dear girl.

Have you ever though of the snake deterrents - inserted into the ground and run by electricity.  Have a friend in NSW who obtained the top of the range system ( not cheap ) - and swears by it.   A 'WIRES' carer, she can now  happily allow her 5+ kg joeys to bound around without problems from snakes.

Admittedly, where your goats graze is most likely a very large area - but for areas closer to the house - perhaps the deterrents would be useful ?

.........  :hugs

Thanks Annie. Thanks to everyone for they're condolences.
We have friends with the snake deterrents and they aren't very impressed with them.
The other goats laid around her as if to mourne her passing, she had a good life. Her best friend
'Flash ' the Shetland is still looking for her.
As for Mindy , turmeric added to the feed is a good natural anti inflammatory and calcivet is a liquid form of calcium that is easily administered in the water.
The winds were terrible here, one of my blue laced Wyandotte hens ' franny ' managed to get on the wrong side of the fence and was trampled by a horse. She is in the chook ER happily eating rice and mackerel with a shirt of Anitone on top.

I have not heard anything good about snake deterrents either not that i would be trying one here anytime soon :gig More babies hatching as we speak. A couple of Belgians out so far.

we found a young python in our chook run about six months, so I bought two solar snake repellers that go into the ground and send out a vibration and sound every 30secs or so and placed them either side of the run. We have not seen a snake since or lost any birds to them (I really hope I don't regret that statement).

Ezekiellette agree with Fancy about the Polyaid - great stuff worth having on hand. I have just finished treating a two week old chick (started treating when it was one week) for Wry Neck with the Polyaid. It is finally supporting its own neck, stopped walking backwards and is eating/drinking normally.

MullyAly, sure :) I now take my girls to Manly Rd vets. They have all sorts of vets and veterinary specialists on staff (including a bird vet) and it's 24 hours and deals with emergencies. My local vet at Cannon Hill whilst not an avian vet, does have some experience with poultry too. Both places have reasonable prices, sometimes I've just been charged for medication only which was kind, and appreciated, and great staff. There is also Brisbane bird vet and Brisbane birds and exotics. I haven't been to these two personally, but I have heard good things about them. So plenty of choice, and possibly more too if anyone has any places to add.

I just found a soft shelled egg in one of my coops. It was just a thin, crushed flattened shell, with some goopy bits of white. There was also a normal egg in the nest next to it with a light smear of blood on it, likely from passing the soft, crunchy shelled egg. I know both were laid by the same hen due to colour and where they were laid. The hen who laid them, Ada is my Australorp hybrid and actually It occurs to me she's about over 2 years of age now. Could this be the first signs of an age related slow down in egg production from her? She has plenty of calcium and a good diet otherwise.

I am so sorry about the goat :( I've always wanted a goat. I should live on a farm (then I can keep my silkie roo). Sorry for the ramble lol xo

Great to meet you. I would be lost without the great help and friendship I've found on this site.

Anniebee I hope the weather lets up on you now. We had our first hot day 32 degrees. Its crazy weather everywhere at the moment no one knows what to expect.

Fancy Poor franny I hope she recovers quickly. Though she might drag it out. Its sounds like she's getting the best treatment. Especially if the weathers that bad. I hope you get some good weather now too.
