Lovely pictures. Mine missed out on Xmas this year as I'm away. I'll see how the are all doing when I get home on New Years.

Thanks guys, as I said she was old . She has a stash of eggs I'm half tempted to put some under a silkie. It's only been wyandottes that I've lost to the heat too.

My new coop is almost finished. I'm calling it ' The Chamber ' coop, because it was once the shipping crate used to ship the new hyperbaric chamber over.

The ramp ends are a result of our horsey background and it still needs some aviary wire and cladding at each end. The good thing about it , is it services both runs and the bachelors on the other side love it.

I love the "The Chamber" coop and I love the grey clouds. They have promised us some rain tonight and tomorrow, but we'll see.
I think your girls and boys are very lucky.

Thanks emelie I hope you had a wonderful Christmas also.

Fancy tee hee, it would not surprise me to learn that my girls were not aware they were chickens either .. yesterday when they were hanging on the deck with us and a couple of our friends they definitely considered themselves part of the activities and conversation; mini people

Soooooo, what are we all doing to keep our chickies cool in this heat? My girls have lots of shade, plenty of dirt to dust bath and lay down in, have a wadding pool (in case they feel like a dip lol) and a pergola to shelter under. I thought about putting a sprinkler on for them but someone once told me that they could steam from the inside out if they get too much water under their feathers...

Wagga is 39 degrees today

Hi, that's hot! I keep lots of generic brand frozen peas and corn in the freezer. In the heat of the day put them in the water dishes and just cover them with water. Keeps the water cool and also helps to keep their minds off the heat, while bobbing for peas.

The other day when Perth had 43 it was 46 in the shade at our place. I lost a Maran, but the rest were fine even my featherless one. They had tree shade fresh water every hour or so and I hosed the trees above them to help cool them. I turned on a sprinkler in front of the coop when the temp peaked, so any breeze would be a bit cooler I let it go into the edge of the run so they can go in it if they want. I hope that gives you some ideas. Don't forget our furry friends too.

Its so cool today, we got heaps done already outside. I hope everyone is having a good rest after Christmas.

Ewwww 46!!! Thats nasty! Im sorry to hear of your loss, was she old?

I will put the sprinkler on shortly, at least they will have the option of going under it or not. It will also make the ground cool for them. Just gave them some watermelon, they thought all their Christmas's had come at once! My fur babies are lucky, they are inside dogs and are chillin out in the aircon:)

Thanks for the advise LuckysMum! I hope it stays cool there for you for a while:)

Thanks She was about 3 years old, but she had been mauled by a cat and my nephew nursed her back to health about a year ago. So maybe she just wasn't as strong as the others.
