Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Fancy what an amazing story and truly brave hen....she also very pretty ...what bred is she?

Sjturner... I am a newbie with chickens ...so I am fascinated that chickies will share hatching!! Another reason to love them!

Not all hens will share hatches. I'm just lucky that most of mine will work with together. It's also good that I don't have to wait another 3 weeks or break someone as they others should share the chicks that cuddles has spent the last 3 weeks on. I might still have a broody pair once the eggs are all done though, as these girls have only been broody for a couple of days.

Oh Fancy .... what a remarkable story. ... I shed a few tears reading it.

And good on Jess for finding and bringing her back home - that in itself was a great and successful ride.

What a truly wonderful hen, with her one eye - and the one she lost has obviously healed over so very well - no doubt thanks to your care for her.

Made my morning ... thanks so much for the link and story.

Cheers -

Good morning folks

Fno more un-hatched eggs in the nest boxes. Cuddles now has 5 chicks under her on the floor and KC has 4 in the box. Lightning is in a nest box on 1 golf ball, and shadows is in another on 3 golf balls. I also worked out I was missing a chook as a tried to count them last night. One of the 5 that are important to me, bubbles, however she showed up for morning feed, make all the I'm busy making babies sound and actions, so she managed to find a well hidden spot in the yard somewhere and has probably got a stash of eggs. I'm guessing its behind the shed were there is only a 1 foot gap from the fence and it's all overgrown. I'll spend the next few days seeing if lightning and shadow will insist on seperate boxes, or if they will share before deciding to give them eggs or not.

I have a Light Sussex hen and all her white feathers have been stained brown. Nowra show is in a week and luckily she isn't one I'm taking but she will be going to a show in July. Does anyone know what I can use? I saw someone using a purple shampoo on their white leghorns and after they looked so bright white!

I haven't tried it myself but i have heard of people using fairy dish-washing liquid.

The heat continues up here so not many hens laying. Nothing to hatch at the moment either. I do have a few quail eggs in the bator but i not sure how they will go as my quails are getting older now.
Does anyone else in qld think we are going to freeze more than normal in winter this year just because it has been a really hot summer. We have not had 1 week since December with out at least one day of 40c or more. Predicted temp for sunday this week is 45c... Yuck,,,
