Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hey everyone! I know you're mostly chicken peeps, but I have a quail question. Does anyone know of a list of quail breeders by state? I find it so strange that there isn't one when there are lists available for every other animal under the sun!
Or alternatively, does anyone know of any NSW coturnix breeders that are actively hatching?
Thaannkkss :fl
You might have to just have a look on gumtree or do a google search for the state you after.. i just had a quick look for quail breeders in nsw and quite alot come up. But i couldn't find a site that lists them be state either, sorry!

have u tried gumtree? I've seen a few ads.. but not certain how good they are.. perhaps check out if they have a good rating?

Does anyone know of good poultry breeders in Victoria? Or online that do shipping? Preferably ones that do eggs/day olds?

I'm looking to expand my flock. We usually get them from auctions but can't find any lately. If you know of any of those that would be great too.

Thank you
watch out for shipped eggs... i've read to expect a 50% mortality due to vigorous movements during shipping... not the fault of the supplier.. just that transportation can stuff the eggs up quite badly

Pics of my 4 Broody girls!! Don't even ask me what the go is with the white one! I hatched her out of some eggs i got from my husbands aunty! She has only ever had barred plymouth rocks and no neighbours that could of gotten her free ranging girls so Cluck Norris (the whiter hen) was obviously a throwback to some cross breeding in her lineage! She's so pretty tho!

What do you guys do when you have a broody hen to stop others getting in and laying on top of them? As mine all went broody at different times so the eggs are all different stages of development! I'm thinking I'm going to have to keep taking chicks off them until they are all finished this is my first time having broody hens! There is another empty nest box for others to lay in but my girls only like to lay in 2 boxes so at the beginning they were laying on the first 2 broody hens! I moved the broody ones to other nest boxes and then 2 others went broody aswell and started sitting on the eggs! I didn't have any back up eggs to put under them as i had just put them into incubator.. hindsight i probs should of taken them out of the incubator and given them to the hens but it took me a few days to realise they had gone broody as sometimes the will hide in the boxes to escape the rooster!

I have nest boxes scattered all over which seems to help.

I've tried Google but most of those breeders breed for meat, they don't sell live birds or fertile eggs, sadly. Have also checked gumtree but most sellers seem to just be backyard breeders and I'm looking for something specific which doesn't seem to be offered  Thanks though!

Mine are annoying they are very particular with 2 nest boxes! So much so one even started laying on the ground instead of the available nest box! I have a nest box for each layer they are just fussy girls!! 🤣🤣 i only have 5 that lay and even when i had 2 broody ones they just sat on top of them and laid dispite 3 free nest boxes right next to them until i moved the girls!! 🤣🤣 i might just have to be more on my game with spring and keep my eye on them more for next time!

Oh I know this pain oh so well.. tho throw in a broody Muscovy who thinks just because no one is laying in the “normal” place (I have a broody who won’t let anyone in..tho she’s not actually sitting on anything) that means she can then try and claim ALL The eggs (yes chicken and duck) and then bites the crap outta you when you try to take them all off her..( we’re talking like 20 eggs a day here) …. I’ve even got ones that now prefer to lay eggs in the laundry and then there’s honey who knocks on the back door to come inside and lay her egg… 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
