Anyone else getting blown away but the winds today?? I was just out taking some nesting boxes out to the poultry club for the up coming auction and was getting blown all over the road!!!! If it wasnt going to be more dangerous ( and time consuming ) to pull over and wait it out- I would still be sitting by the road now.

Ducks are not happy- I have locked them up in the shed since the winds are just too strong here. 55 klms an hour is just to much to let them out in. But at least it has blown away all the feathers they have dropped from molting now.

Hi Ducky,

It's beautiful and still will a light wind here in Redcliffe - Brisbane. Sun is shining and it is very muggy again. I will be blowing up my portable swimming pool for 2 and Oli and I are going to have a dip.

Shatzy, my silkie is wondering around the back yard frolicking in the sun - I think she ducked for cover now. She is enjoying herself and getting used to the place. We are busy, getting some supplies to finish off the chicken coop for the coming Australorps and I start college tomorrow again - so back to studying. Boy are we going to be busy - my poor hubby got 8 days straight at work.

Anyway I hope everyone has a wonderful week.

It was blowing hard here earlier Ducky then it settled down for a while and it's blowing again now.

I'm drooling over some of the Bacchus Marsh auction entries, pity it's so far from me. :(

I'll have to wait for the Kyenton listing to be released and see what's on offer there. I'm considering selling some of my hens, do you by any chance remember what sort of prices pure bred hens were bringing last year Ducky? Do they take crossbreds too by any chance? I have some pretty layer pullets and I'll have sexed banties by then too. I'm definitely liking the fixed pen price not the commission based auction up here. I like my crossbreds but I'd like to free up some space for more purebreds and it's close enough to Melbourne I thought pretty layers might do well.

Horray ,I now have 3 New Hampshire chooks and they are suppose to lay in about a week.Had trouble with one though,it kept roosting on the ground at night so I grabbed her one night and put her gently on to the roost next to the others and gave her a gentle pat for a while.Next night she roosted with the others so all is good.
The next thing I have to sort out is the laying box which I had closed off .My wife kept saying I should open the entrance so they can see where to lay their eggs.Well, they pooped in it, the rotten sods,so I have closed I again and wait till one off them starts laying. Then the entrance will be opened again.Might have to teach them where to lay also

Hello penguin! :welcome

Congrats on your new chickens.

You'll probably find that they might not lay in the nesting boxes.
Mine never got the hang of it. :p

They tend to make their own nests somewhere it suits them, for us it was in the corner of the coop behind a rusted corrugated iron tent-like thing.
