I have a very healthy respect for Malays... and always give them a dignified amount of space when near them.

The cochin babies are safely in their new home. Now the fun of the geese eggs start lol. Matt sent down one egg that was huge and would not fit in the bator. I cracked it open and it was a double yoker. It weighed 300gms. Never seen a double yoker goose egg before.

Have 8 goose eggs and about 7 runner eggs in the bator now. I am not holding out much hope for the geese eggs as they are sooooo dirty. Looks like mumma goose has be mud restling with them. I contemplated cleaning them first but figured that would prob do more harm than good. I am following advice on how to incubate them from that clever lady from this thread ( thanks Ducky) so we will see how we go. This will be my first attempt at geese eggs and my first attempt at runners since my last disaster with them in the bator.

Hello everyone,

There have been new developments regarding the ACCC and the proposed Egg Standards Australia. The first time I mentioned this topic, it was regarding changes to Free Range Eggs. This time, we need to write in about proposed changes to Free Range Turkey and Chicken meat. I just received this email today from the Humane Society International and I hope that all of you will either fill out the automated form (just follow the web-link) or please compose a letter of your own:

In June, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) called for public comment on the proposed Egg Standards Australia, the controversial industry standard that would allow massive increases to the stocking densities of free range layer hens and change how we farm free range eggs in Australia. Your feedback to the ACCC was extraordinary and we believe your efforts effect real change in the egg industry.

The ACCC is now calling on you again to give your input into the definition of free range, but this time for free range chickens and turkeys raised for meat.

At HSI we don’t believe free range meat birds should be treated any differently to layer hens. However, the APIA Free Range Standard (Australian Poultry Industries Association) could mean that the birds are only given the same space outdoors on the range as they are given inside the shed. This could mean huge stocking densities of up to 60,000 turkeys per hectare, and up to 140,000 chickens per hectare! APIA wants to label this as free range.

This is a rare opportunity to put an end to the industrialization of free range meat production, so don't miss it! Please send in a personal letter of your own or simply send an instant email using this form: http://www.humanechoice.com.au/accc...C+hands+consumers+power+again+don't+waste+it!

True free range producers need all the help they can get to help stop the intensification of the free range industry for them, for you and most importantly, for the birds.

Send your letters to: The General Manager, Adjudication Branch, ACCC, GPO Box 3131, CANBERRA ACT 2601

Or by email to: [email protected] quoting reference CTM 1435347 in the subject line.

Closing Date: Friday 10th August 2012

Thank you!

Cheers,
Gold Coaster

Satay...dont forget I have actually only hatched one gosling. I have raised hundreds but only one from my incubator. With geese the mothers really are the best mothers- but many people do have really good success hatching them. I think you were right to leave them dirty- after all- thats how the mother would have sat on them. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I have runner eggs everywhere again. About 8 a day right now- that means 56 or so a week- and I am only setting about half a dozen a week. It seems such a waste to be throwing away so many- most of them are still still small to incubate and 50 eggs a week....who could eat that many???
