Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

HI Helen welcome to the Aussie thread :) I am from Esk in Qld .

I have 4 chickens pipping this morning. Was getting a bit worried as yesterday was day 21 and nadda. Woke up this morning to see four pipps so I am a little happier now. How are those ducks of yours going Ducky? Got many babies out yet? Where is wooklet? I am sure she will have babies hatching too now. Maybe she is still trying to thaw out from winter down there on that funny little island Gold coaster did you get much of the storms the last few days? We got a total of 15mm but it was great to see rain after so long, taken the dirt off the trees etc at least.

Ok So today I have an egg with no shell. Its Spongy and has a very small yolk.

My girls are health (you've see the pics previously posted) and have shell grit in the coop as well as layer pellets and they free range every afternoon for approx 2hrs.

What Do you think ? I do have one old hen that isn't laying could it be her ? or just a one off ?

Prob just a one off i would say. I get one every once and a while and mine have all you have listed. I would be more concerned if you keep getting them. My quail eggs turned up today and 7 were broken bugger. Luckily i got quite a few so hopefully i will stil get some to hatch. Have 7 babies out of the eggs so far in the bator. Looks like 3 brahma and 4 Ausiie. :)

Hi guys, I'm based in Sydney and new to the whole Chook game. Just halfway through building our first coop which is taking longer than I'd planned due to all the info I keep gathering from this wonderful site. Just when I think I've found the answer to my problem another idea or post creeps in and takes me off on another journey of discovery

. I've done a bit of research on-line for Chook supplies and was wondering where the locals get their feed, DE, Sweet PDZmeds and other Chook nic-nacs from. I don't mind ordering from online stores but would like to be able to get things locally if possible.

im going to say one off, unless you have POL hens, they will lay a few quirky until they get the hand of it, i have 4 POL hens and they are so small got an egg which is smaller than a quail egg (ill put a pic up) and another egg which almost had a flat side so weird.

Welcome :) I am probably not going to be much help from you as to where to buy stuff as i live rural and we have a big produce at Gatton that i get most things animal related from. I have not yet found a place that sells DE so have never used it. Most meds you will need to get from a vet if you need them. (except for wormers and lice treatments you can get them from a produce store) I get all my feeders, waterers, and anything chooks, duck, turkey related from the produce. Some times they laugh when i go in and request something but they are usually good at finding it for me .

sure is nice to have some sun. off on holidays for a week now bit nervous leaving the chickens behind, funny how id rather be at home with my chickens than off on a holiday in the sun. i think the chicken bug bit me hard
