Hi all, I have just joined up and wonder how many Aus members there might be near me, I'm in Horsham Vic, out in the sticks lol, having trouble finding silkies that are not crossed with who knows what close by, I do love my crossed babys I already have but would like to get more into some pure lines, maybe by buying in a few eggs once my girls go broody and starting that way, any way still early days and I have lots to learn about this lovely breed

I love the red but I think its a Roo, thats just 2 of my 4 chicks, I also have 3 older white silkies too

HEY ALL

No further softies ! YAY Back to the 4 eggs a day. I think the old Girl is the one not laying.

I also found evidence of Rats near my pen again so the Trapping begins again !!

I wish the neighbors pen was looked after better, But no one will do anything about it. Not even the owner.

They leave feed everywhere Hence the Rats. My dog gets a few and the trapping stops them for a while then they gain confidence and return.

I hate them......................

OH and I installed dine-a-chook (ebay name) drinking cups (purchased from ebay) and they are fantastic.

Has a floating nodule that allows the cup to contain water and I attached them to a 20 ltr bucket. NO more daily filling my water for the girls.

It use to bother me I would get home and they had none, either knocked it over or drank it all (It hangs and they still spill it)

Well I better go.

Thank you, they are lovely, except they are very scared of humans, they are last seasons show birds from a breeder i know, and he's only handled them once or twice, do you have any ideas on getting them used to humans?

The are lovely looking birds Luke. Try treats maybe some bread or some scraps that you can use to feed them to get them more used to you.

They love meal worms. You can get them from pet shops. That's what won my girls over.
Handful everyday for a week lol

Well a nice little surprise yesterday. My mum was up for the day and we were looking at the turkeys sitting and i said i better go look under them as i can't rememeber when they are due. All three girls are sitting on a heap of eggs together. Lift up number one and only eggs, Lift up number 2 and 1 turkey baby, Lift up number 3 and 2 bantam chicks lol. I new they had some bantam eggs under them but i didn't think they would be fertile. I have taken the 2 bantie babies and have left them with just the turkey for now.
