Hi folks,
thought you might like a little input from your chickens' homeland Downunder, as it seems a little scarce on the site at the moment. I'd like to stress that I'm a hobby breeder and not an expert! I used to breed and show Langshans until finally outfoxed. Have recently started again, choosing our national breed. I'm fortunate to have some terrific breeders locally. For novices, I'd recommend
googling Australorp Club of Australia - click on Snippets for a great pic by Andy Vardy which was used on the cover of the latest Australian Poultry Standards. It's from my local area in SE Australia, and I think sums up where Australian Aussie breeders are at. Great curves!! Personally, I think we're breeding too big and are in danger of losing tight feathering and creating chooks (what we call chickens here) that are too 'orpy'. Don't like to criticise, but many of your members roo pics have terribly upright tails with very little of the desireable curve we look for.
Cheers Geoff Roche
