Australians - Where are you all????

Pics
I actually contacted them the other day about silkies and pekins. I have met the lady recently at a get together of Melbourne members of a different forum. I found the return email from my inquiry very business like and professional. I had asked for photos if possible - and they sent me a link to their website but it wasnt online yet. I think you should be pleased with what you get from them though. I havent heard anything negative about them.

Thanks, I got the same impression from the e mails she has sent to me. It's good to have feedback though. I'll send you pics when I get them.

Oh...and I forgot to add...I started a thread in the duck area about my double yolker...If anyone wants to get and update of how things are going with it....

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=419362

I dont want to candle it every day. But I do have a quick check most days just to make sure they are both still alive in there. I am so hoping it at least gets close to full term. Now that "Eggegg" has its own thread I dont want to have to announce it didnt make it. I feel like I would be disappointing anyone who has read the thread and taken an interest in it.

I am following your thread with a great deal of interest and excitement- your pictures of it are fabulous, well done, not many sleeps to go , I'll bet you are excited and nervous! I watched the video of the 2 ducklings hatching,it was so amazing and cute!
I will have your eggs ready by Monday though,I know it is close to your hatch time, but my Polish girls who free range are becoming crafty with their eggs, and are finding all sorts of wonderful hiding places for them! I found their spot yesterday and left an egg in it, but today they had actually moved the egg to another spot, and laid another one - I would not have believed that they could do that if I hadn't seen it for myself! She must have rolled it along, crafty little witch! My point being, after all that, that I am getting your eggs before they find a REALLY good hiding place! Even though we are not in the 24 hour Express area, I am sure that if I send your eggs on Monday, you will have them by Tuesday. Hope that's o.k. Should have 8 for you.

I cant tell you how excited I am to hear that. Poultry is the one thing my daughter and I can have in common as she goes through these next few horrible teenage years. She really wants to be involved in the club and breeding. I so wish I could buy a bigger place so I could have room for more animals for her.

I have called out to her to come see eggs so many times- she will know what to look for- but Im sure she will have a great time hatching her own babies. I know I will have to feed them sometimes...And I will be the inly one cleaning the brooder- but she is really looking forward to hatching her own eggs. I have managed to find some gold laced Wyandottes ( or is that silver laced ?? I cant remember ) And also I have had an offer to hatch some Sussex and Barnavelders as well. No way I can let her keep one of each..as I still have to get a silkie and pekin for her.

The egg still has about a week to go- so anything can still go wrong. Even If I can get one of them out alive it would be a bonus. I was thinking of trying to get DNA tests done on them if they do hatch. It just might be interesting to know if they are from the same drake or different. I wonder if they would even look the same. Even if they dont hatch- I will still open the egg and take photos. I wont post them on the pages here... But if anyone was really interested I would be happy to PM them. OMG!! I have to remain more positive about my twins.. I shouldnt think about what I will do if they dont hatch.... But I am just trying to remain realistic about their chances.

I have a duck who is penned in the shed during the day with all the babies. When they go out for 4 hours in the evening- she goes and sits on her nest. Tonight I found her spot full of hay. She has taken it from a different nest about 10 metres away...she was a busy girl today!

Ducky, I had some idea of saying with twins you have a 50 /50 chance of at least one surviving, but it didn't sound right! Anyway,I am keeping the fingers hard crossed and sending your egg positive thoughts!
Wish you lived nearer to us - hubby has gone beserk with that incubator, but the only problem is he won't get rid of the chicks, and we have about 50 little Barnevelders walking around, about 30 of which are Roosters, all hell is going to break loose when they start to crow! He did exactly the same thing when he bred Cockateels we ended up with an aviary crammed full of them. What would you do with him???? When you said that you wanted Barnevelders....! Wish that I was mean enough to do things like turn off his incubator every night so that he had none hatch - but I'd be thinking of all the little lives in there.
Talking of little lives, this is the reason for this e mail. I have a guy coming round tomorrow with a 2 week old chick that has splayed legs, he says that he can't kill it, and would I help out - well,I can;t kill them either, hubby can,but before we do that is there any chance that it will get better? Is it fair to keep it going like that? Evidentally it can't stand up,and shuffles around on its' hocks,he reckons it's wearing the skin off - poor little soul. I could probably rig up some sort of padding, but how would it survive the rough and tumble of the coop? Any ideas?
Your daughters eggs are sitting on the bench being turned regularly hope she,(and you),enjoys them! I kept the Polish locked up today until they had laid! That sorted them!

I was asked to fix a gosling last year with splay leg. It was the worst I had ever seen. Poor little thing had been left outside with the parents. Anyway- a week with its legs strapped together saw it right again.

Poor little thing could not even stand up on its own.

If the chick is getting around on the hocks it sounds more like slipped tendons than splay leg. You will get a better idea of what it is when you see it.

I would be more than happy if even one of the ducklings came out alive. I think you will hear me down there in Tassie if they both come out alive. I just did a very quick candle today - both still alive.

Where did you find him wooklet...your hubby sounds like such a character. I would be getting up early to collect the eggs- and hiding them so he has nothing to put into the incubator.
My daughter didnt choose Barnies..she was offered some eggs to hatch by a friend- she likes the bantam breeds better So I doubt she would want to keep any of them. I sure hope she doesnt end up with mostly roosters with what she hatches. I have an auction in Feb- so hope that by then I can sex most chicks and offload some of the males then.

How did your little one go wooklet? Any improvement???

I am getting so nervous about my egg. I can see movement- and want to put a small hole into the egg- but I am afraid it might be too early yet. I will wait until just before I go to bed tonight. I hope my twins are strong ones....

Hi leebee
welcome-byc.gif
- Woodstock - pretty famous place! Do you have chickens?

Ducky, the little one died before I even got it, don't think that it had been getting to the food and water. So sad when they fight so hard to live, and then die when so young isn't it?

OOOOOOH! Your hatch is getting so close! I know what you mean about putting a hole in the shell,it can be soo tempting, especially when you are as keen as you are ,we are , all of us are! I go to BYC first thing now to see if anything has happened. I know you will keep us all posted, and all the luck in the world from me to you and the twins! Is your daughter excited?

I hope that your eggs arrive safely,I put enough wrapping around them! I have the tracking number here in case we need it.
