Australorp Chicks at 4 Weeks

My son and I were looking at your cute chicks on your blog. Very cute!

BTW-Getting back to your OP, I have no idea if you can tell if they are a roo or pullet at this age.

I hope they are girls. My Charlotte was a runt too. I thought FOR SURE she would be a roo and then low and behold, she layed an egg. So, don't give up hope yet. I thought I heard somewhere that they are hard to sex at any age, maybe I am wrong.

Oh, btw-almost all of my hens, when they were chicks, had tails that stood up like your girls. You can tell usually if they are a rooster by their behavior, they will start acting completely roo-like (standing tall, being assertive-like, play fighting more than the others) so look for that in them.

It's a week later. Ya sure this isn't Roo posture? She's five weeks old today and her comb is still light pink nude color and no different than the other Australorp and RIR. But that stance.

And here is Greta (in the front), Ethel (other Austrlorp) and my EE Mabel. Greta and Ethel are almost the same size again.
