Quote: Hi Tony....Living out here in no man's land, there is very little town to hang out in. LOL Just lots of empty land, mountains and mesa's out there. So I am here on the homestead most of the time. My entertainment is enjoying the solitude and peace and quiet. No neighbors, no other sounds other than what emanantes from this place.
lol.png
(screaming birds, barking dogs, chainsaws, gun fire, crazy people)
lol.png
It's not that crazy. But I stay entertained and enjoy life! Every moment is a gift and sacred.

How is the arm today? You don't need a gym...just bench press that roo of yours!
tongue.png
How is your flock? How many birds do you keep??

Hey Leyla. Sounds idyllic. In addition I would need is my CD's and a fridge full of Bud
yesss.gif
. I live in a small town called Freshwater. Barely 5 square miles , but must have about 6000 people in it. A mixture of old or bad people. The Island does have an excellent record of major bands that perform at the annual festival . The Chillies are here this year
yippiechickie.gif
. There's no work though. So sitting through endless sunsets with my birds and a bud sounds---------------------------------------------------------------------------beautiful. Google "The Isle of Wight Pop festivals"
I did have 31 birds . One, "Apollo", was a super friendly cockerel, but the foxes got him and another 17, so I only have 14. I hatched them all, hand reared them all. I was a bit ****** off. The were all kinda friends, always scoping me out, always following me around the garden. I used to spend my time tripping over them. They would sit on the end timber I was sawing watching the sawdust
D.gif
. I also have about 150 Chinese/Japanese quail.
Is it desert mainly where you are ?
cool.png
My flock is still adjusting to being terrorised by 2 foxes, but they all leg it up the garden when I come into view. They have about 80 square meters of garden to run around in , but set up camp outside the back door , just in case I leave it open. That's where the food is kept, and there's always spillage lol

Wow, you have quite the flock! And you keep quail too? I keep Bobwhites as well! I used to have 3 large aviaries full of Bobs. I was involved for a short period of time with raising birds for release on public lands. I had so many quail, you needed to know trigonometry to count them all!
lol.png
But I got out of that knowing that most of these birds would never survive the wilds. I did enjoy the hatching though. LOVED the hatching part of it! The incubators never cooled off for a few years.
tongue.png
I have been keeping Bobs for about 10 years and since then have been letting them all die off from old age. I have many that are 7 years old yet. Can't believe they are still alive. LOL Some have arthritis pretty badly, but still get around. I have my health tricks to keep them walking.
wink.png

I am at 7,000 feet up in the mountains. Southern tip of the Rocky Mountains. Much of New Mexico is in the mountains. The eastern portion of NM is part of the plains states and the southern portion is deserty. Not like Arizona with all the cactus and all. But dry and sandy like. Hot too. We don't see heat up here in the summer. Quite cool. We can freeze to death in the winter. LOL But what with the drought we have going, no snow, the cold has retreated and it was a very mild winter.

Hope your birds come around from the foxes lurking! They can be quite timid for some time after trauma. My girls saw a hawk take a large dove right outside their run last summer and they still don't like hanging out in the run very long. LOL

Here is what all the fuss is about. Scope this bad boy out Note the expression on my face. The guy taking the picture had one button to press

. I'm losing it big time , then click. Up to that point I was smiling. later

Nope, no mask.

It doesn't get difficult to breath until about 11,000 feet. Climbing some of these mountains can nearly kill you! Ha!

Great picture! He is a big boy. But you look like a nice strong man. You could carry two more just like him!

HI Tony! I wish I could say that I had some good pics of this area! I have been here for so long, that any pics I have are on paper and not in this pc.
tongue.png
But I can include a link here to some pics of this area...I know this is not as personal as pics I have taken, but I just don't have any!!

I have pics of this yard, LOL, boring. Take a look at this link and this will give you an idea of this area...

Last year we had a HUGE forest fire that torched the COMPLETE northern end of this mountain range. Came roaring thru here as well. We refused to evacuate, what with all the livestock and house pets. Wow, like an apocolypse....ash fall out, burning orange skies, you had to wear a mask outside to stop the burning in your lungs and throat, dead bugs and burnt tree twigs falling from the skies, couldn't sleep for 2 full nights or days, air tankers with slurry flying so low over the house you could see the color of the pilots shorts, LOL...The quail suffered the most with smoke inhalation. The chickens did ok, but were in sheer panic mode for days. But this range looks devistated now and will take hundreds of years to grow the pines back in. 500 homes were taken out, people died. Just a nightmare.

BUT....I live to tell the tale!!!

Leyla, that's f---ed up. I'm blown away. I'm sorry to here about that. You must felt at odds with it all. "mental" To see all you love " which you obviously do" , about go up in smoke like that . Nature is cold hearted sometimes. You survived it though. A testimony to your strength
cool.png
ool . Any signs of recovery yet , any government support ?? What sort of acreage did you loose ? Bummer !
I'll scope out the link.. Also take some picks of my beasts and show you 2moz, u do the same, can you? I would like that , a lot
thumbsup.gif
.Well it's about 1800 hrs where you are and midnight here. Time to take some more pharmaceuticals so I can sleep. Last night was one of the longest nights I've ever had, and today I'm totally destroyed. I can only take 3 of these pink things a day. The effect is nice but short lived. It doesn't take the pain away
sad.png
, you just don't mind its there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mental
wee.gif

You take care Leyla

See ya 2moz bout 1300 your time

Yes, it was very emotionally disturbing. The mental depression lasted for months afterwards and of course you can see the destruction every time you drive out of here. Thankfully it can't be seen here at the house because we are in a valley. The fire never made it to our property, but roared about a 1/4 mile to our north. The firefighters did their best to squelch it around us. We prayed they didn't dump any slurry on our place. LOL

And yes the government did step in along with the Red Cross. The people that lost homes had temporary housing, food and clothing. The forest service re-seeded the grounds, but other than weeds, nothing much is growing yet. And most of the people that lost homes didn't rebuild. Why rebuild on scorched land. Here is a couple pics of the area....

But we have all mentally recovered. It will never look the same here, at least in our lifetime. But we go on.

Get some rest Tony and keep your eyes on the skies!
