I have 4 black Australorp hens up for rehoming. I got them from TSC in early october as Jersey Giants, which they are not. They just started laying early this week.
They have been raised free range and fed New Country Organics. They do not like snow, they will not leave the coop if they decide there is too much snow on the ground. There are 4, one of them is a bit smaller than the others, her name is Twerp. Twerp is dangerous, I trip over her at least 3 times a day.
I am asking $35 each.

If you are looking for real Jersey Giants try Saratoga Farms in New Egypt, New Jersey 729 Pinehurst Road, New Egypt, New Jersey, We were going to get some but road up to Andover for Blk Aus.
Do theirs get to a good size? I am having a hard time finding any that get larger than the average meat bird. Back in their golden years, Jersey Giants were supposed to get up to 15 pounds, but no one breeds them for size anymore. Now they're just glorified Australorps.

I know the giant was developed in New Egypt way back. Their web site says the original Jersey Gianthttps://www.saratogahorsefarm.com/chicken-and-turkey-sales

Now the Australorps aren't even Australorps, unless you go to a breeder. We started our flock with five from TSC as well, and only 2/5 even have the dark eyes. What's up with that.

Not to throw shade, we never have gone to a chick distributor for peeps. When our go to hatchery owner died we did use McMurray once for Barred and Buff Rocks which were great birds. Now we found a great hatchery in Andover, Sussex County, V&R Homestead, who have a wide selection of very healthy "pure bred" birds. Our BLK AUS are now 14 wks old and there is no questiion of breed. V&R may be an option for you. Not sure if they do JER Giants if you have your heart set on that breed. Chk out V&R Homestead on face book for available breeds and upcoming hatch dates. Also Saratoga Farms in New Egypt, NJ do breed the J Giants.

Thanks for the tip! I have a contact for SOP bred Australorps where I plan to get my rooster, but V&R is only an hour or so away from me. Next time we are actually planning to get chicks (instead of saying we are not getting chicks, and then impulse coming home with chicks) I will let DH know that sounds like a much better option. The website hasn't been updated, but I am assuming they are still open.

Go to their Face Book Page for latest info on hatching dates and breeds. I should have mentioned before, sorry.
