Rita is from Tractor Supply Co. she’s a black australorp. I’m wondering if the way her feathers stick straight up in the back is a sign that she’s having a gender identity crisis (I’ve not had any bird with such vertical feathers before so I have no idea if this is a thing). Her comb is bigger than my other pullets, but she’s my only black australorp, so I don’t really have anything to compare. I want to say she’s 5 weeks old. I know she’s still young, I’m just asking for thoughts not definitive answers.

I have Australorps, the young hens walk around with their tail feathers like that. That is exactly how the young hens look. That is a pullet. The males combs would be bigger and lighter or red.

Thanks everyone. She’s from a pullet bin so I’m happy we got what we actually paid for haha.
