Australorps breed Thread

I just adopted a little gal that looks a lot like an Australorp but not sure. Do they come in bantam size as this one is very small, even smaller than this picture makes her appear? Here she is with her friends. I also adopted the EE and a friend of mine is going to adopt the RIR and Golden Sexlinked so they go in pairs. I have all bantams in my flock so I didnt want to take on too many standard size girls. After the black on the EE was the more diminutive of the three standards.
If you cant tell from the picture is the black on is an Australorp, how can I tell? What else might she be if not? Thanks to all for your help on this.

So they do come in bantam size....Ill look under the chin once she gets more used to my being around and I hold her without upsetting her. She just discovered the wet corn treat I put in her enclosure. Im not letting her roam the yard with my flock yet.
I just noticed when the sun is on her feathers there is a green and purple sheen. Is that a distinguishing factor?

I think it is Green sheen the right amount of oil , purple sheen too much oil on feathers ...not a normally a problem ..it usually straightens itself out .

Thanks for the link for more info on Australorps.
I read more on black sex linked and the claim is they lay brown eggs. This little one lays small white eggs according to the people I got her from. Therefore I dont think she is a black sex link.

Interesting....they lay brown eggs according to the chart info. If she indeed lays white eggs I guess she is not an Australorp. I have not gotten an egg from her yet as she just joined my family this morning.

Do you think Aussie would get along with silkies?

Thought I'd just posted that they didn't to someone but can't find it. Weird. No they don't, or at least mine don't. The silkie is terrified of them and they love pecking her at every opportunity. These days she spends most of her time hiding from them. The one exception is the Aussie she hatched for me, that one mostly leaves her alone.

An Australorp will never lay anything but a brown egg. Though there are lots of shades of brown, it clearly won't be white. There aren't many white layers, mostly Mediterranean breeds. And those aren't all black like an Australorp. The White Faced Black Spanish is closest but if you look at the pictures you will know that your bird isn't one of those. Yours looks very much like a BA. The skin should be white, not yellow, just brush back some feathers on her body to see (if she allows it). And I agree that the legs look to be slate which is proper for a BA. I think you'll just have to wait for her to lay an egg for you

And yes Aussies have a green and purple sheen when the sun hits them right, very beautiful.
