Australorps breed Thread

AussieAU,
Looks like a blue cockerel to me. The pic that Blubaby is talking about on my avatar is not a blue at all, but two blacks. There are a lot of blue babies in my profile pics.

Rattlesnake Ridge just had a great hatch on 3-18-17 with 30 out of 32 making it into this world. 21 BBS AUssies and 9 Mottled Ameraucanas. Pics will follow in a couple days.

If anybody wants to make a roadtrip there are BBS Aussies on Rattlesnake Ridge for sale, but not the Mot Ams.

I agree pullet and cockerel if they are the same age.

Yep same age both just over 4 weeks old! See i would have guessed the blue was a pullet and Black was a cockerel from this pic

Hi everyone, I got two BA about 3-4 weeks old, not sexed, is there a 'tell' at this age or wait and see? I don't have any good pics of them, but they are built the same, as far as I can tell. they were overcrowded where I got them, feather picking and stuff, but they have settled right down and their skin is looking much better, and boy are they enjoying the space they have now. I put them in my kennel crate with hardware cloth wrapped around it and up on a table so I am no longer the monster from above. Less than 48 hours and what a change. They seemed to not mind too much being held and sitting on my lap while watching Days of Future Past. (this is Hugh Jackman, we like him)
even if I had known they were Roos I would have gotten them, I can't stand seeing crowded babies, any species.

The ones I have are about that age and you can really tell the difference. The hens have longer tails and wing feathers, and started to grow out their wing coverts (the small feathers that cover the shoulder part of the wing) around 3 weeks. At one point the females wings were solid black and the males all looked like they had fuzzy shoulder pads. Mine will be 4 weeks on Wednesday, and the hens tails are almost three times as long as the cockerels and they are sticking them up at a nice 45 degree angle. Also, most of my cockerels waddles (the fleshy part that hangs down from the corners of the mouth) are starting to turn red... but not all, so I wouldn't go by that alone.
