Australorps breed Thread

I let my little flock out of the grow out to experience being under the big blue sky for their first time today. They'll be 5 weeks on Wednesday. It was so fun to watch them wander out in a group, check around and peck at the grass and dirt, then decide it was too overwhelming and all run back in. Just to let their curiosity overcome them and wander out again. They did this probably 10 times. But the weather is kinda cruddy today with gusty winds and occasional spurts of rain so I closed them back up after about an hour. I'll try to remember to take pics tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be alot better.
The little blue pullet is turning out a very pretty medium blue. I love the lacing. There's also a cockerel that I believe might end up being blue as well. All the other chicks are black with the green/blue beetle sheen, but this guy is more of a dark gun metal grey, without any sheen. He's got a nice personality, and he's one of the biggest so far.

He's absolutely beautiful! I think it's fascinating that they come out such a bold bi-color like that. I'm unsure if I like the blue roos or the splash roos better. But, I really like the lacing, and I don't think I've seen a splash roo with that.

Yes i love the black on top and blue underneath. He is such a gentlemen... he dances for his ladies, shows them where the food is, breaks up fights, chases away predators! Im so glad I've got him and the chicks that they make are to die for

I like your Blue cock birds body confirmation with your countries standards and I agree his comb needs work. I really don't have comb problems except frostbite which is not genetic. Your hen does have a lot of tail in that pic unless it is the wind, for your standard. Do you ever have red leakage or bleaching from the sun with the blue cocks? By the way, what is your first name?

Cactus,
Splash hens or cock birds do not have the lacing like the blues.

No red leakage but sun bleaching yes... his sickles and hachles turn a brassy colour. He has removed feathers on that particular hen which makes he look like she has a massive tail

Quick question I have 6 week and half old black Australorps when do their feathers start growing? My 8 EE's had already started at same age. Just wondering if they're slower to develop.
They should be feathered now but some lines, and some hatchery BAs will behave differently.

They will molt several times as the grow too. The last one is at 18 to 20 weeks old or so.

Did you post pictures yet?
