Australorps breed Thread

Hi, I'm new to this too, wondering why it took me so long
The one that you said "it's definitely a cockerel" do you remember how old  he  was when he started showing signs of being male?

I thought Astraulorps were all black and looking the same but I  guess I was wrong cause I read somewhere on BYC that there are different kinds .

Hi there. Mine are both black. Those others are EEs. Honestly I could see a difference between the two in the first week. The one I think is a boy didn't develop any tail feathers for about 2 weeks or so after the girl. Also he had bright white tips on his wing feathers which were much shorter than the other one. I've been able to see the red and growth in the waddle since about 5 weeks old. None of this is proven science that I know of just my limited experience with what I have. And yes I'm old and wish I had started this chicken farmer thing a long time ago. I had no idea how much I would love it.

Thank you for telling me about your birds!
I only have the one, so nothing to compare it to! I guess I'm just going to have to stop bugging everyone on here, and just wait and see!

I took so many pics but the 5 chicks move so fast and my phone isn't quick enough, I'll try taking more tomorrow (lol then I need to figure out how to post them)

Yes they move fast. There's a little square box with fake mountain and sun when you go to reply. Touch that to upload photos. I'd just keep an eye on the waddle to turn red soon. But if you want to post a picture i can compare to mine.

This is at about 4 weeks or so. The cockerel is on the right with more white showing and a lot shorter tail feathers. The other black one is my pullet. I can't say for sure but I think you have a pullet.
