Australorps breed Thread

Here are my little ones. They were labeled as sexed pullets, the store up the road from me started into the chicks and everything and I couldn't help but adopt 4 of these cuties.

Can't help you with the sexing, I just wanna say they're adorable!

Not yet, but they are starting to get nicknames, which might end up being permanent if we don't name them soon!  (And won't make any sense when they get adult feathers, as the nicknames are based on their baby fuzz appearance, lol!)

And that is exactly what has happened! We've got Goldie (for her gold/yellow color), Cheeks (for the white spots on her cheeks) and Tipper (for her white-tipped flight feathers).

I won't name mine until there is at least 85- 90% chance of them being hens! I can't wait!

My husband and I drove from Cincinnati, OH to RattlesnakeRidge (ByGod) WV, and
got 18 chicks and a Rooster from Kurt. It was worth the trip. Kurt has great birds.
He is so knowledgeable about this breed, and so helpful. Plus he is a super nice guy,
and great to do business with. And if that is not enough, it was a beautiful drive,
and we had such a great time.

Same here. I've got Whitehead because he had the most white on his head of all the chicks, Gunner because he's more of a dark gun metal grey and I'm almost positive he's going to be a blue, and Blackie because he's so far retaining his black comb while all the other cockerels are red now. So far, though, all the rest of them are just chickily-wickilys.

Agreed! When we were long haul in the semi truck that was an area I loved going through, but it's hard to get good pics in the semi. The windshield is always covered in bugs, the huge side mirror blocks any good pics out the side window, and we can't just stop anywhere because, especially in that part of the country, there's no place for an 18 wheeler to pull over... :(

I'm crossing my fingers that the hatchery that supplies the feed store chicks lives up to its 90% sexing success rate, and all three of mine are hens!  :fl

I am crossing fingers with you. I am hoping my aussies are all girls for sure. I know i got lucky with straight run plymouth barred rocks, bought 9 this season 3 turned out to be roos 6 hens. Now its a guessing game with my ee, banties and buff.
