Australorps breed Thread

We can all hope and pray in the US, but you will never see a bird like that here. Especially not a hatchery bird. That is one of Australias Best!

Ok then.... I wish mine comes really, really close to looking like that one! How's that?

Chicks grow 800% in 4 weeks from hatch. I have 4 week old Cuckoo Marans, and 3 week old BBS Auusies and Mottled Ameracanas. They are only 10 days apart and they can not be in the same pen due to the big difference in their sizes. The Mot AMs are half the size of my BBS Aussies at the same age. The Cuckoos are twice the size of my Aussies so I'm going to wait until they catch up in size for a couple more weeks. You can take a chance if you want, but I would not recommend it.

Mine scream too when I touch' em!
I've been handling them since they were 1 day old, you'd think they'd be used to it by now! ...I don't even want to picked them up, I just want to pet'em!

Combat,
The chook in the second picture in the front may be a cockerel at 4 weeks old. Did you get a
straight run or alleged pullets. They are still pretty young to tell for sure, but that one has a lot comb going on there. I have been wrong before so don't sweat it. In three more weeks you will know for sure.

Get them to come to you with treats: meal worms, scratch, fresh kale and etc. While they are eating the treat, pet them under their crop. Chickens do not usually like being touched from the top because of prey avoidance. They will see you as an attacker if you try to touch them on the head or back.

It doesn't have to do with the breed. All my chicks were like that at 4 weeks including my australorp. Now she is 8 weeks and loves to be held.
