Australorps breed Thread

Here's my 6 4 week old Black Australorps. I'm thinking the first and last 2 are Cockerels since their feathers are way behind the other 3 in developing. Am I right in this guess? Thanks for any advice since I've got little experience sexing black chickens that look so similar as babies.

My Black A. is 6 weeks old, has no wattles and a skinny yellowish comb, so I'm guessing it's a pullet right?....but then I look at the tail feathers and they look more pointy than round..also the tail seems skinny and longer than my Buff O.....so what you think, can it be a cockerel even though the small yellow comb and no wattles says pullet?
At what age do pullets start to show color in their comb and grow their wattles?

Ooo, I'd love to know this, too... I only have a flock of three four-week old BA chicks, and am holding my breath as they grow up, looking for 'signs' that the claimed 90% sexing odds came out in my favor!!

On the plus side, I haven't seen any signs of waddles yet, none of the combs look red (two are yellow-ish, one is black), and all the tails look the same to me, so I'm thinking they are all the same thing, whatever that is! (They can't ALL be roos, right?)

Yeah I read a lot of posts talking about cockerel comb/wattles development, I need to know about pullets, so I don't make the mistake of getting rid of a pullet thinking it's a cockerel

Here's my 6 week old ...as you can see not much going on as far as wattles and comb, but what about the tail? The feathers are long, thin and pointy, does the tail say pullet or cockerel?

Sorry man but it still seems to me that he will be a beautiful rooster

I think this cause of his tail and his posture. The comb and wattles are not developed yet but Australorp isn't a very fast growing breed so maybe it's still early. I hope I'm wrong

ps Hi Cicero

Hey

Unfortunately I am too far but I really like his posture.. I swear I find him imperious and bossy! If I were you, I wouldn't get rid of him

My BA roo is really calm and shy and it is a peculiarity of that breed

Just wandered over here, and of course I have the age old question. SHE is about 8 weeks old, don't have
a good recent picture of her, they grow so fast, but she is not changing much, I'll try to get a better shot tonight, but playoff hockey is on.
Piper is a huge Caps fan already. I think her body type says pullet, but I am really bad at this. She is kinda snuggly when she is on her own, but the EEs she is with are just whack a doddle.

Can't keep roosters, my family would not eat eggs if I have a rooster! ..neither would I actually!

The tail of your bird is as long as the tail on my bird, so if yours is a pullet it's only fair mine is too!
