That would do nothing. The "target" has to be in contact with both the hot wire and ground. That is why birds can sit on the electric wires and not get fried.

Ah rats! and here I was looking forward to seeing it. I think I'm going to set up a feeding station for crows around my big Pecan trees. I've got two of them, over looking the run from two corners. If I can get a murder to set up house, that would keep the redtails away.

Wait a minute, you said BLUE AUSTRALORP? I've been out of chicken keeping about 6 yrs, but a Blue? Crap. lol I love Australorps, now I'm gonna have to see about Blues. It was so easy when it was just the Blacks.
i have some very beautiful black & blue australorp hens & a big blue roo, i also just lost my gorgeous splash australorp roo

They will fuss a hawk too. Not as effectively as crows, but yep.
i had been trying to get a flock of crows, or a murder of crows, i saw in the trees up the street & i tried to get them to hang around by feeding them and all and talking to them to please make my farm their home , but sadly they just never did stay around , crows are great at alerting chickens about dangers and can scare off hawks, Crows often post a sentinel,as a guard they can be a great help for your chickens safety. i wish i had some crows to help protect my land . :fl
