Welcome Oz-E-Chick,
it's good to have another Aussie on the thread. Can you tell us a bit about your 'lorps and maybe post some pics. It's much easier here than on backyardpoultry. Glad you enjoyed the historical stuff. There's more back a few pages and more to come.
Cheers Geoff from Aus

Sharing a few images of my Australorp. They came from an Amish family. These three are around 14 weeks of age. They have been free ranging daily since they were 5 weeks old. They free range along with Cochins, Silkies and Old English.

The End....

I do not understand why one of them holds her tail feathers very high and the other two do not. Are they really all three Australorp?

Hi redbarn,
if you want more detail, go back through this thread. Briefly, almost from the beginning of Aussies there have been two strains, the record breaking Utility layers and the bigger, fluffier Exhibition form. Most American birds were imported from the Utility form. Even here, Utility strains tend to have more upright tails that are not tight, full and curved. My avatar is regarded as an almost perfect Exhibition bird - all curves! If you'd like to breed quality Aussies I wouldn't use her eggs, but select from your rounder-tailed girls and just enjoy the tall-tail as a good layer. Unless, of course, the tall-tail comes from a he pretending to be a she - some surprise you late!
Cheers Geoff from Aus
