Australorps breed Thread

Hi Ron,
it's late I know, but just thought I'd mention that it's believed that, along with a fair bit of Langshan, some Leghorn was probably/possibly added to the original Orp. to create the egg-laying machines that achieved world-wide fame. Not saying it's come from your end. The white feathers in young BA's might be a hint!
Cheers Geoff
It is good to hear from you!

The Australorps that come from our Hatcheries have more recent crosses to Leghorn. The hatcheries try to make them more easily feather sexed as well as increasing their lay rate. Still not as bad a lot of breeds though.

Here is Mella Bella enjoying some garden goodies. She seems to really love split open cukes.

Hi Dee,
just caught up with this pic. I reckon it's a perfect pic to show the beautiful green sheen we want in our BA's. It's hard to capture. Love it!
Cheers Geoff

Looks like a Barnevelder to me, we have one but not up to their standard!

Sorry to disagree with a fellow Aussie, Ben, but I reckon your Barnies might have a single comb. I've learned not to be hasty in disagreeing with Cuba. The young bloke really knows his chooks!!
Cheers and welcome to the thread Geoff
