Australorps breed Thread

It's taking FOREVER for my girls to regrow feathers. They are almost there. Pip is still has bald spots. Cluck has them all but they are still not fully grown in. I'm guessing that use of hen saddles at this point in the TN heat (in the upper 90's this week) would be horrible and their feather shafts will still be tender?
Are the bald spots from breeding?

If so, you may want to take a dremmel to the Rooster spurs.

Re: crop is the right-side bulge. So good to know - I wondered where that was!! I did try to feel it but she was not into that and all I could tell was that it wasn't hard. I hardly see her when she hasn't been pigging out because I make sure they eat before lights out and leave food for breakfast so they let me sleep until 8am. Thank both of you for the info!!!

They get fed late morning & Eve here ..Get let out around noon ...
When we are out to watch them & most are done with laying at that time .

Some take pliers & pull them off or put them in a hot potato & pull them off .
I havent tried either of these .. Dont know if they hurt ? I do know that they bleed after .
I have trimmed the spurs with clippers

Love my Aussies. I have four of them. They are my favorite breed. Beautiful to look at, friendly, funny, curious, and great layers. They are always the first to come running to the gate when they see me coming.
