Australorps breed Thread

I have some good news guys!! I'm getting 2 more chicks tomorrow and the person said they'd take my extra RIR roos!!
I'm probably not going to get another Australorp, because I like having different colors........I already have red(brown sex link), black and red(black sex link), black (australorp) and partridge(silkie) colors......I want white(californa white, leghorn) or/and barred (plymouth rock, domique) right now.
Just thought I'd tell you guys the exciting news

Great ...roos are sometime hard to get rid of ...A colorful Flock ...you have

Welcome !

Do you already have other chickens ? or are these your first ?
thank u 4 the welcome :). We have 7 day olds right now; (3) polish, a wyandotte, and a cochin. On 7/10 we will receive (2) easter eggers, a barred rock, the australorp, a buff orpington, and a welsummer. I couldn't choose, and i want each of these breeds for specific traits they're known for.

Sound like a beautiful flock! My black sex link is red, too. Like a robin! How old will the new ones be?

There are places in California where releasing a chicken is not a death sentence. Usually the chickens that survive are Breeds like the one you found because they can get very high up into trees and stay fairly safe from predators.

Fair Oaks has a park with chickens living in it year round. The city has a Chicken Festival each year.

That sounds worth looking into - not too far from Davis...

My Lorpy has uneven breasts. It's been like that for awhile now and maybe getting more noticeable since the white stripe is gone. Has anyone else had that?
It is the chick's right side that is enlarged. Or rather the left isn't keeping up. Thanks for any insight or suggestions.

The buldge you are seeing on the right side is her crop. Watch and it will get larger after she eats. Massage it a little and you can feel the grain or whatever she has eaten in her crop.

it should empty every night and refill throughout the day as she eats. Check her first thing in the morning before she's had a time to get up and eat/drink.

It's taking FOREVER for my girls to regrow feathers. They are almost there. Pip is still has bald spots. Cluck has them all but they are still not fully grown in. I'm guessing that use of hen saddles at this point in the TN heat (in the upper 90's this week) would be horrible and their feather shafts will still be tender?
