Australorps breed Thread

We found her living in a bush on a busy street. I don't know how long she was living there, but it looked like for a while. I think she is extra skinny because of that, but it could also be due to her breed.

There are places in California where releasing a chicken is not a death sentence. Usually the chickens that survive are Breeds like the one you found because they can get very high up into trees and stay fairly safe from predators.

Fair Oaks has a park with chickens living in it year round. The city has a Chicken Festival each year.

Oh how interesting. I had no idea about that. I just assumed she somehow escaped someones backyard or something. She can't really fly though so we are assuming her wings have been clipped.

I see you live close by, we live in Suisun :)

Hi! Newbie here. I have what I was told are 8 BA pullets. Well, one's a BR, and the rest may not be pullets....any thoughts? I'd appreciate it! Really sweating this!

Hatchery australorps and a bared rock mix. They are all cockerels with the exception of the last two that are pullets.

My money says ASSEL on the other question about the found bird.

Thank you everyone for your help. It looks like Aseel is the popular answer for my Annie. From the pictures I've seen, she does seem to resemble one :)

She could be moulting, which would mean that her primary feathers have fallen out and she won't be able to fly until they grow back.

Her frame itself is very narrow, so it's not just a matter of being "skinny." Even an underweight Australorp won't look that thin. Plus, the angle of the body and tail are completely wrong for an Australorp.
