Australorps breed Thread

I posted a few pics earlier in this thread, but my Australorps are notoriously camera shy and uncooperative. Here's the best one I could get of the dominant bird, Evie (she's the closer bird in the photo, and her twin is behind her). There's really not much to see in the way of combs and wattles yet.

The wattle is a bit bigger but not too pink yet. If a rooster, the wattles will be a lot bigger in a couple of weeks and the comb will pop up.

You are safe so far!

Honestly, I'm happy either way. I'm lucky enough to have enough property that owning roosters isn't a problem. Evie's one of my favorites...no matter what the gender.

This is not helping me maintain my roo denial on my one you know. She has much more comb at a week older, though no redder. I shall just tell myself it is the camera angle lol

Most Aussie Roos are not aggressive either ..
D- I love your purple chicken avatar

My Avatar is actually my Barred Rock 2-week old Roo named Shadow. The late hour of the day + blue brooder + red heat lamp made him look purple! LOL! Lucky for me he's a total showoff and loves to be photographed (unlike my Australorps). Here's another photo of him:

My two roos are perfect gentlemen. :)

Then again, they are breeder stock.

If you have hatchery roos, it'll be a gamble just like any bird. But I will say you have a higher probability of getting a nicer rooster if he's an Australorp. :)
