Australorps breed Thread

These birds are striking .Do you have any pics of yours ? I cant see a problem with the name your birds are black ...I actually thought of a crow or a Blackbird when you 1st mentioned the name . But if it bothers him try another name What about being more Specific ? Aussie Minorca Farm ...or Aussie Minorca Bird Farm .or Aussie B Minorca Farm QUOTE] I have no problem with the color. We grow black tomatoes too. I don't think that it points to a race of people. Especially not with bird in it. I do not know of a race that was teased by using a bird. My family is multiracial and some of them take offense to a lot of things (depending on background and even religion). Thanks for helping with the name. I like the Aussie B. Minorca Farm too. We now have all different minorca though and if we do not get an Australorp Rooster(I plan to name him Qhemet) we may not continue the breed. We will have to get some chicks fro. Somewhere else. I know that I won't allow my flock to be Aussieless. I love all of my birds, but the Autralorp was the first that I chose all on my own to have on my own farm. Plus they are so sweet, and lay lots of large eggs all year. I must say that they pull tear weight.

I need to upload all of my pics to my new phone. One thing I can say is that my girls do not have earlobes as large as yours do. Are those Minorcas or the White Face Spanish birds? We are getting some new girls in March I hope that they are as beautiful as yours.

You can't help people's reactions. Pick a name that makes YOU happy. ♡ The rest can bugger off.

But I do find Aussorca Farm or Minorcalorp (Minorstralorp?) Farm to be quite catchy. ^_^

Good luck! ♡♡♡

That is catchy Mrs B. Now that I think about it, I feel like I am leaving my others out. We have a colorful flock now. You can tell by my avatar that my hubby made me.
After finding out that we were going to have a baby boy as our second child, it took him forever to help pick a name. He hated all of the suggestions. I am surprised that our little guy has a name. We knew the sex by month 4 and did not have a name until the end of month 8. Not to mention that we had a list going since we I was 8 weeks. My husband named him Karem Malcolm. It means fruitful peace. Naming a farm/business may take years. We will never have a banner on our table at the farmer's market. Lol. People will still be making checks out in our names for CSA. Lol.

I hatched out 5 Blue (BBS) Australorps. Four of the are Blue and one is Black. I was hoping for a Splash but oh Well!

I took this picture when I had four:

Thanks not my birds... I pic I captured trying to figure out what a Black Minorca was. What about Ennis Chicken Farm ..your avatar could be your logo ..that would cover everyone These are my Babies a mixed flock ...Papa is a Aussie..enjoying the snow path that I shoveled
I love a mixed flock. We do not have an all white bird in our flock. Since we love the Minorcas we all want a white one. It may be our first all white bird! We live in the chicken capital of the world and everyone has plain white ones. (Eventhough the flocks that i grew up with were mostly RIR, Dominiques, and Orpie mutts) I wanted to be different. Once again another great name, right? The response was, "Babe, we aren't known for our chickens." I think when people visit they remember them, but most people know us because of our veggies and we don't get many visitors. I am hoping to sell produce and eggs at home this year. We just moved right off of a hwy that takes people to and from the Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia beaches. Plus we are 2 minutes outside of town. Most stands in our area are not along the hwy, close to town, or have fresh eggs. Plus I can put up a stand in town on one my mother's properties. We will be joining the Berlin Farmer's Market as well and attending our old one in Salisbury. Both are neignoring towns. The market in our town sucks, but if we have stands to sell the produce then, we won't need to work the weekly market. My oldest son is going to be in 4H this year and will be doing some gardening and will continue with his chicken showings. This is the first year where he can be judged and not be noticed as a junior participant. He is super excited. But if we can sell right from the yard that means more visitors and chicken love. We are planning on other animals, but as we grow, we will expand. Thanks for the names and support. We will knock him down sometime...hopefully soon all of our paperwork goes in before Feb.

Congratulations!!!! I love how hatching can be like so surprising, but I know how it is when you don't get exactly what you hoped for. There is always next time. I am loving the fluffy picks. We won't have chicks around here until spring. They had to be ordered. Hopefully we can get what we need to breed what we want next year. Then we can share our surprises.

The snow is beautiful, I'm in Nashville so don't get to see how my chickens would behave in the snow!
