Australorps breed Thread

Am I wrong or do the blue and the splash look like orpingtons

To get the blue genes, a lot of lines have been bred to orpington. They are then selected to meet the Australorp standard.

You will sometimes get more of an orpington look so those would be culled until you had Australorp looks.

They already look very similar since Australorps have orpington in them.

It probably depends whose birds you are looking at. Didn't australorps have Orpington in them originally many moons ago? Could be wrong but if so I imagine they get used a bit still to bring in certain qualities, maybe colour is one of them.

I don't know much about orpingtons but I thiynk my splash has more australorps type. Doesn't it? (Still learning!)

Do the blue and the splash lay the same as the black. I think the splash are beautiful, would love to have some if anyone in Mississippi had any for sale.

Some of us have vision problems.  Using capital letters and other criteria helps me see what I wrote, at least.  It's rare that I holler or scream...period but when I do, there is no doubt about it.  :he

I've seen some incredibly rude comments to people over the years on different forums and nasty comments here to posters who don't do it like everyone else and not use capitals, or large fonts too actually. So at the risk of sounding like a jerk myself lol thought it better to mention but honestly, it's amazing how bent out of shape people can get over the stupidest things. Surely they could tell themselves people aren't really yelling and get over it lol. I often wonder if everyone is becoming so high strung in real life as they are on the Internet sigh

I have 18 madisons,11 cinimon queens,10 California whites,10 production reds, and 8 black australorps. all of these are under 4 weeks old.and all are pullets except 3 of the madisons which are roos. I also have 4 half rir 2 months old and half wayndott, 8 isa browns, and 4 white rock 4 months old. i'm just trying to get back in the chicken business. I hope to have a few eggs to sell starting next spring I've had australorps in the past and they were the best layers of all diferent kinds I;ve had. I just like to have different kinds and color chickens. what I want most know are some splash australorps. mabey someday I will find some.

Sounds like a really good assortment. We made the mistake (well egg wise it was a mistake anyway, they are great kids pets) of getting pretty things. Now I'm more interested in chickens that will actually lay consistently.
