Australorps breed Thread

Lol I finally started getting eggs from my BA's 1 a day then all of a sudden it went to 5 a day out of 8 hens and some are pullets. Now I'm wanting more.

Know what you mean. My one I had was my best layer so I got a couple more. Just got another month or two till they start laying.

I've got 20 BA pullets & 5 BA straight run chicks plus a free exotic chic ordered with expected delivery of Feb 10th. I can hardly wait for them to arrive

. Half of them are a Valentine's gift for my pastor and his family

. They bought the property next to me, YAY, They will be moving in as soon as they get the derelict/abandoned house there rebuilt. They've been working hard at it and may end up living in their travel trailer for awhile as they complete it. Pastor had said he wanted BAs a month or so back and after checking them out on BYC and this thread, I decided I wanted some too :p.
Gotta work on getting a brooder set up!

Well .... most of the white ones I've seen are in a location called Meritt Island. I imagine some of the folks living there might let you on their property to capture some - last one I saw was at my X In-Law's house. Maybe someone on the Florida list might have some on their property.

I see most in Merritt island and cape canaveral. They r such pests. They do structural damage to homes big time and they have been known to attack people. I was told they r actually protected and that's why no one tries to get rid of them. Tourists like them and when I first moved here I found that fascinating but after hearing too many friends w bad esperiences I personally wouldn't feel ok trying to raise them here. But I won't lie the makes r gorgeous. Just not worth having my roof ruined and caved in for.

I like this incubator / brooder myself ..TiTi my little Sumatra

Me too! My BIG BA hen raised my June chicks from Meyer. Did a great job for 2 months protecting them, showing them everything and everywhere, then laid an egg and kicked them to the curb. MHP is the next best thing for the right amount of warmth whenever THEY decide they need it. Not so good at the rest
