Quote: They are very pretty! I like The Black chickens of any type. I am incubating Black Penedesencas and actually have 3 or so developing. Penes are very hard to hatch when they are shipped!

What color egg and how big are the eggs she lays? Does she lay a lot of them?

Ron,
The splash egg from Chet could be either blue, black, or splash, hopefully it will be splash! The only way to bank on a splash is to mate only splash to splash, which Chet did not do. I believe it was a blue to blue mating. It will produce 50% blue, 25% black, and 25%splash.

That is correct, it takes 2 splash to garrantee all splash, Breeding for and developing splash is the trick.
It took us 3 years to develope the Blue Australorp from using the basics.
We began back in 2008 starting our project with just developing Orpingtons of both Blue and Splash varieties first, to keep the gene pool as similar as possible, before even attempting any color change in the Australorp, as at that time there were NO Blue Australorps being found or bred here in America.
You can count the years its taken up to now to develope just a few splash that we have shared with Kurt and Lynne(if she even hatched any after her frozen postal incounter).
We dont use related lines so it takes longer to cull out for breeding pens. We dont breed banjo playing chickens.
If you want a challenge, start from the VERY begining and develope your OWN line of Splash Australorps.
It is all about dedication and investment of time to one single breed, developement of different varieties and documentation of everything you have done from square one.
When you have spent about 7 years on the project, contact me and let me know how it worked out and I will take my hat off to you!
Good luck and Happy hatches to all!
