Australorps breed Thread

Hi Ron, I see you are almost always on line. I like reading your comments.

We just bought the farm a year ago last fall and inherited some barnyards. This is my first year breeding. I bought my stock from a couple of breeders last fall. I also purchased a couple of Hatchrites that need a little work. (new controls) I should have them up and running in a month if I get my arse in gear. I'm going to use one as a bator and one as a hatcher. But that will be the middle of maple sugaring season then. The snow will start to melt and the sap will run as well as the wiskey.
What I see from experienced breeders is they have started already and I'm likely going to have some young birds when the fall shows come around. How do you like to see the season progess in your neck of the woods? What are your plans and how do you manage to stick to them?
Trevor

I am hatching for an egg farmer in exchange for keeping my Roosters out at his place and I am hatching for a local breeder that is working on improving SG Dorkings and Delawares. I have been hatching for the Breeder for three years now. She wants to get her hatching done before summer because she does not want to have to brood chicks in the heat. It gets very hot here--last year up to 110 and we have days over 95 for several months.

I keep track of my hatches with hatch charts that I keep in a binder. I will be setting eggs tomorrow and will be setting eggs weekly for the next several months.

I hope to work with the blue and black Australorps soon too.

It is great to have you posting here!

Ron, NOW you tell me about the hammer. All of them are out by the coop construction site.

I hope you have a big old sledge hammer! Every once in a while you need one of those...
Let my try this again, and see if the pic will upload....We are getting ready for our new BA's.

That is a very nice set up you have!

I want to breed the blue gene into my Australorps as well as keep my new BBS Orps. Of course the Orps are in the incubator for day 2, so I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch;)

My hubby is all confused about the charts for breeding that I've been making.

Is that a current picture? We have 2 1/2-3ft of snow in the fields and that's not measuring a drift!

It's warming up nicely though. The weather forcast is for -13C tonight (8.6F for my imperial freinds) a month ago it was around -35C (-31F) at night.
