Australorps breed Thread

On an unrelated note... And I can't remember if was in this thread or another one...

@hellbender , did you ever hear back from whoever it was that you contacted regarding the worm-chick-hatching conundrum we had?

Just curious.

Ron posted an email from the Poultry Professor. He said that it was likely possible but did not have any studies to reference for it.

Maybe there is an update?

BBS = Black/Blue/Splash genetics. :)

I love your baby coop! :D

Here's the baby brooder my loving MrB built for me to move them into the garage. :D

Would Mr. B consider posting some measurements and quick directions on how he made this ?? It looks like it would work perfectly for me. It looks like it can be taken apart & stored. Please ask him to simplify, because I am no carpenter !

It even looks light weight!

Back note, we got the chick situation sorted out. Pushed some things back... going to have to stretch the rest of this month. I owe my husband one, he'll be putting in lots of O.T. because of this.

Does anyone here ship eggs? Probably at the end of the summer I'm going to be looking into getting some B.B.S. and I'd like to know ahead of time. :)

He says it's 8'x4'x2.5'. It's constructed out of .5"x3"x8' stud boards made into frames for the "walls."

Standard application of washers, screws, and hardware cloth. That's just what we had. You could also use chicken wire for indoor operations. :)

The beauty of this thing is we used zip ties to hold it together! Throw a tarp down, zip the walls together, toss in some wood chips, add food, water, and brooder light.... and chicks!!! :D

You could make it as big or small or add more walls. :) Endless combinations!

MrB said the whole thing cost around $150 for supplies and wood and such.

Our breeding program will be up and running by then. I've got all blacks but looking forward to expanding to BBS. ♡♡♡

MM used to be the hatchery of choice for people around my area and there is a very large bunch of people who keep chickens in WV.  The major problem that I've heard a LOT about and have seen a couple examples of are birds with twisted beaks and many with leg problems, especially in RIR and Australorps.

I recommend Cackle and have done for some time.  Several folks have taken my advice on BYC and I haven't heard any complaints as of yet.
Thanks for the recommendation. My DH had asked me why I had not chosen them. That will be the next hatchery that we use.
