Australorps breed Thread

I've never managed to leave a chick in the incubator for longer than an hour...and that's actually a massive improvement for me. My first hatch, I broke at twenty minutes. Now I observe the remaining eggs more closely and guess as to whether they will hatch sooner rather than later. I know I'm acting in defiance of wisdom, but it's a personality flaw.

I can't stand it, either... Especially when I see them bowling with the other eggs. I think I will try out the carton method next time for lock down. :) GREAT idea.

And as for alleged personality flaws, we love you anyway.

My husband will not allow Turkens. Bielefelders are super sweet. My hubby loves

the look of the Australorp x Rhode Island Red. I am going to try it a Partridge Rock cross, and a Marans cross. You will have to let me see you BR x. I do not have any Barred Rocks.

I would love to get some Bielefelders, but my MrB thinks we should stick to "perfecting" one breed and see how we do in shows. :)

Better than what mine are Marinating in
This was one of the 1st snows

"Our fresh, heritage chicken is air-chilled, but never frozen, to ensure freshness and quality. They are lightly powdered with the finest Trinity snow and are served with organic twigs and berries encased in gourmet shaved ice, and seasoned with fresh powder locally sourced from the roof of the coop."

It's really all about keeping it local. ;)

I'm dying here. That chick is the only one out. He's so LOUD. I am so unprepared for a botch hatch. I'm praying... Candled, still life. Pleeeease just be late.

Can you put it near the incubator ? so it can hear ...the others & they can hear it .
I had 2 eggs one egg hatched first 2 days ahead of the other .
it had to be in the room with me or it screamed ...

it even got in the shower stall with me ..I brought her in the bathroom...so she could hear me ...
She really screamed after the shower ..I had to blow dry her ...she was so cold
I put her on a towel in my lap when I was at the computer ..in a butt pack when I moved around
She was better after the other chick hatched ..but still both imprinted on me
I hope more hatch ...

Ok y'all, I drowned my remaining eggs. I'm really kicking myself. I KNOW better. Going to order some more from the breeder, not his fault. My flock needs new blood, and, the lonely only needs a friend.

Named him Sunday. Praying for a rooster, but a hen will be fine. I'll just have to leg and her.

Too much humidity with rainy weather, when I normally do dry hatches this time of year, equals drowned chicks.
