Are australorp eggs normally that dark? Mine are more like the lighter one.

Well, I think the color is a little off in the pic, making the darker one look even darker, but I was a little surprised at the color too. None of my other ones lay that dark. She's got 2 hatch mates that have yet to lay, so we'll see if they all lay dark eggs.

They are usually light brown to med brown.

Brown eggs start out darker at the beginning of the lay cycle and then get lighter until molt.

Hi peeps! I am a new chicken owner, and I have 3 baby BAs that are 3 1/2 weeks old now. They are so adorable! They are from Meyer.

I do have a question, does their eye color change as they get older? Their eyes are pretty pools of black right now, and I sure hope they will stay that way!

The eyes should stay black.

I really wish I could have a roo, they are all so gorgeous! But alas, I live in the city. I'm glad I can have my girls though!
