Australorps breed Thread

Thanks for the comment about the light. I think I'll lay off of the light to let there bodies do there own thing I was just a little disappointed because I haven't got a single egg since the begainning of November.

Im old & dont remember ? Tell us more about your chickens ...their age ? breed ?
Could they be hiding them ? Eating Them ?

I went about 3 months with no eggs this winter. Eggs ended up a standard part of my grocery list again. Thus the adding some more australorps to my flock, hopefully they pick up a bit of the slack from my other girls.

I had 3 australorps but I got 3 more and 2 black copper Marian's that I just introduced into the pen last night. I'm suppose to go trade for a leghorn today as well. Then maybe get about 3 Easter eggers and I'll be set. But I also saw on here were I wasn't doing there diet right either.
I do think at first they were eating the eggs then it went to not getting any eggs. But this year were should be good.
I have two 2 yr old australorps, and 4 pullets, 2 black copper Marians that are 1 1/2 yrs old, and old domiquer now. But she hasn't layed in about 3 yrs. but my boys love her and she don't eat much so we just keep her.

What were you feeding them?

Layer hens need most of their feed to be layer rations.

Bruce,
Go White Rock!!! I had some EE's in the past do that because they are mutts with vigor from crossing. That is not always the case, sometime it is a crap shoot and you end up with crap!
Kurt

24 straight as of today, averaging 6.4/week

The other WR started 11 days ago and is averaging 5/week.

Both of my EEs are/were (one eaten by a fox April 2014) good layers which is why I got 3 more. So far the two that are laying are doing well averaging 5+/week. STILL waiting on Athena. Come on girl, get with the program!

I have one very good 3.5 Y/O BA and one that is not a particularly good layer, at least not by BA standards. She has averaged 2.5/week where the other has averaged 4. The 2 new ones (Megan from Meyer says BAs can have yellow soles buuuuuuttttt ...) are doing decently for girls that just started laying last week, ~ 5/week. One is the only girl to be laying the high end of Medium and into Large.

What do you mean X2? Do you mean to double up on the laying crumbles?

The X2 is an agreement--Not a doubling of layer crumbles.

If they are having a hard mold, you can also feed them a higher protein feed. Nutreena sells a feather fixer that seems to help.
