Australorps breed Thread

Hello everyone! So I have some baby black australaorps I got at the local tractor supply. And just thought I'd join in on the fun in here.

Here is a pic of my little buggers.

Nice looking chicks and welcome to the thread. If you put your location in your profile people will have an idea what sort of weather you have. Useful for when you ask a question where that can be important.

I started incubating the eggs around the same day I got the day old chicks. So when/if they hatch I'm looking at around 3 weeks difference.
With 3 weeks difference I would think their could be quite a difference in size ..the littler ones could easily be trampled ..
and not be able to compete for the food ..
Is your brooder big enough to split it in 2 - for a introduction period ? if not i would separate them at 1st

Gramma is right, the size difference is too large. They will have to be kept separate. A chick grows 800% in just 4 weeks. The difference between a 1 week old and a 2 week old is twice the size so 3 weeks will not work if they are confined together. Running around a barnyard or large coop with places to hide is another case.

PS I am old, what the heck is Tapatalk?

It's a phone application that allows me and other taptalk users to see fourm content and post from an off site source.

It's pretty much just a third party that makes it easier to use from a cell phone.

I've often had that pop up as a download this app thing when looking at forums. Thought it must have been something the forum had installed. Didn't realize you could use it on any forum.

The mobile version of this site is good anyway on the phone. Would be curious to see a screen shot of what it looks like on the tapatalk app.

It's a 100gallon stock tank. I don't know the exact dimensions but looks to be about 4'6"Lx3'Wx18"H

Daniel...don't even think about keeping the chicks together. The older ones will soon get to large go be in that tank, even if they have it to themselves.

I have a 4'X8' Coop and run that I will be moving the Australorp chicks into as soon as I can.

How long do you believe I should wait before I move them out there? I was thinking between 4 and 5 weeks old.
