this is King. He's my lap chicken.
 

My cockerel us finally growing some tail feathers. Is it normal for cockerels tail to develop slower?

Some say yes, some say no

People lose sleep over whether their chick is female or make (bad because they can't keep roosters) based on how fast they feather out and then find that their chick is female.

However the fact that you have real Australorps in Australia might make it somewhat different than those of us in the US of A.

I have confirmed that out of my three chicks i have two pullets and a cockerel exactly what i wanted. The pullets are fully feathered and look amazing. He is less feathered and his colouring is more patchy.

I have found cockerels look more scruffy when growing in different stages ..nothing to worry about .long as he is getting enough protein .
My young roos are famished most of the time ..as they grow bigger & faster... they require more food
