Australorps breed Thread

Ethel gave me two eggs that I found Saturday morning, but she dropped them while sitting on her perch and one didn't have a shell.

Could be parasites, worms or mites etc.

Try posting to the injury and disease forum.

A simple test for worms is called a float test. You can take a manure sample to a vet that does this test and they will tell you if the chickens have worms, if so what type and how to treat them. You can find lice and such on the chickens. Check the vent. If you find them, do a search on here for treatment.

You should take note of other symptoms. Are they too fat? Are they losing weight? Are they laying less eggs? Do they cough or wheeze? do they have swollen or runny eyes? Do you smell any thing not normal?

Good Luck!

Huppfarm, where have you been hiding? I am hatching another 3 dozen on March 10th for my grandaughter to see. I bred Dundee to the Urch pullets and they are looking good, time will tell.
Huppfarm posted last week that his chickens still weren't laying. He probably did not get a notification about this forum being updated--Notifications have been broken for a while. They seem to be back now, so he may get back to us. If not, send him a pm.

we have had a catastrophic desaster at the farm

we lost our breeders to some strange desease that made them loose their balance and fall backwards randomly. they acted fine and would walk around but as soon as they stood still they would have to sit with the legs sticking strait out in front of themselves. we had a ration of finches come and get into the pens to eat the feed, leaving mass amounts of feces on the ground, even though i cleaned feeders and waterers daily, the feces on the ground must have been injested causing internal balance deficiancy.
we are so bummmmmmmbed out.

ive been on a killing spree of finches daily but there are too many to make a dent in the hoards that visit the farm.
we are having to start from ground zero and start the 3 yrs process all over again. i feel so badly as i had made promises to several folks to get black and blue quality hatching eggs by february/march.........not happening. sorry everyone........pooop happens

Chet, Im so sorry to hear about your birds..man that is scarey!!!!
Its an odd thought but i cant help but wonder if its somehow related to the news stories of birds across the nation just pretty much falling out of the sky...jeepers creepers...you guys have worked too long and hard to have something like this happen. hope you get it resolved soon..lime can help kill things on the ground like that..cant think of anything else to do about it..
we
have not had any wild birds this year....my moms suet feeders remain full from last fall and still no takers...wroteote cornell u about it as my mom was upset, she lives down the road from us..she had absolutly no woodpeckers or anything at her feeders this year...cornell didnt seem concerned about it..but we always have a gazzillion blu jays around after chicken feed, and some cardinals...this year i have only seen one...thought it was strange..

you should put a post over in disease area and see if this is happening elsewhere.
