Hi everyone -
I'm in Western Washington and recently had a long visit from a young lady and her mother who is a friend of mine. The young lady, (her DD) has wanted chickens for a long time and she spent a long time asking very thoughtful questions, touring my coop, etc. Friends will begin building their coop next weekend. However, she has decided she would like to raise Australorps. I know many local breeders whom I trust, but I don't know any local Australorp breeders. This family would be interested in purchasing hens or pullets to begin their flock. They may even be able to have a rooster. They have decided they are not interested in incubating or raising chicks at this time. Maybe further down the road. They have a 2 acre piece of property and have been doing a lot of research for the coop build. I know it will be a sturdy, safe structure.

Are there any breeders in the western Washington areas that you could suggest or refer me to so they could start their adventures in chicken farming?
I'd appreciate it - thank you!

If you're looking to buy hatchery stock Australorp chickens here is a great guide of hatcheries:

Also, DON'T FORGET, check out the buy - sale - trade under the forum tab at top of page right here at BYC. Many people here buy, sale and trade. BYC is a wonderful site!

For finding out more information about this breed run a search here at BYC.

Thank you for responding. I'm really active on the washington thread, (and yes, we do talk a lot!), but none of the folks I know from there have Australorps. Just thought I'd check here for any other local resources I'm unaware of.

The only very active australorp club is in australia..beautiful website , photo gallery, much information, copy of thier standard..plus more..you can find it in search australia australorp...there is also a forum..there used to be a very active australorp club in US but it disbanded years ago..I think chet was thinking about starting it back up..but not sure..dont want to speak for him..its pretty disorganised here but lot of enthusiasts ..it is tough to try and find solid decewnt australorps, thou Ive seen recently tiger creek and a few other breeders have some good quality birds show up in here..cubakid too , impressive birds..not sure how close they are to you but you might contact them, they may have customers that they sold to in the past that can help you near your area..good australorps are one of the most beautiful birds.
