My Australorp Hen turned out to be a Good Mother…..
a loner, a Boss and then a mommy.
Took excellence care of her 2 off springs
Taught them good survivor skills, beginning Day One, out of the coop and exploring.
attached are there five month old photo.... Waiting for them to lay eggs
---
2 - 5 month old birds in training, they sit in the nest, watch the hens lay;
(off spring of Jersey Giant/Brahma and Australorp/Brahma) Brahma was white.
Hatched August 4,2017.....
I have been able to pet the Australorp the last two days.
All my birds are 100% Free Ranging, only cooped at night in Mid Michigan

I keep getting Barred Rocks and Wyandottes confused for some reason. Here's an adorable photo in the media slider. Which one is this? I love looking for new photos in that slider.

@moniquem Since you only have room for a few chickens, were you able to source an Astroloop (I give up on the spelling) breeder in your area? I don't think I've seen them at feed stores here. But then again Welsummers aren't easy to find either, and yet lo and behold, when I called one of the feed stores, they were just about to receive a hundred Wellie chicks, much to my delight.
Yes, my feed store has both Australorps and Welsummers! I am super excited to get them. I also wanted a BO and a speckled sussex to round off the troop.

Yep, I'm super excited to start with chickens. Honestly we don't even eat a lot of eggs in my house so not to concerned about this. Theres just something so relaxing about watching chickens cluck around in a yard making there little soothing noises. I also have a huge slug/bug problem in my vegetable garden so these girls will be working a bit :yesss:.

I'm thinking I will get 2 black Australorps, and 1 each BO, SLW, Welsummer and speckled sussex. Thats 6 which is about two to many :wee!!!!!

Hey there! Anyone have pictures of their Australorps they'd like to share?

Next spring I'm getting my first chickies and I'm thinking of these and a couple of BO.....

My pretty Peck. She went broody on me last summer when I didn't want her to, but I hope she goes broody again this summer so I can slip some fertile eggs under her!
