Yes.I am guessing you are thinking that the apron would be permanent and therefore need a separate 2x4?
Grass will grow up thru it and make it hard (if not impossible) to move.

It might help but foxes can jump quite a bit, raccoons and weasels and most other things that prey on chickens climb regularly.@jthornton I will tarp the walls of the covered run in the fall to keep the snow out entirely, will probably add plastic or wood pile tarps (16' by 4') around the elevated HC sides under the coop as well.
I will have three double planked floor sections for the coop, they drop in once the walls are up but before roof panels go on. I actually meant that the elevation itself would aid in predator/pest control although I am far from certain about that. I read that using metal flashing on open edges helps?

I have wondered how long raccoons, weasels, etc. will hang 8'-12' on a vertical wire wall while they chew away trying to get in.
Glad to see you're back at itI have been contouring the ground inside the pole shed and just beyond where the coop will sit. There are 3 levels with the coop highest, stepping down to 12' by 12' run next highest, then the remaining 12' by 24' area lowest and next to road. Height steps are colour coded in the diagram below; highest from right to left.

I had thought to tuck the coop just under the pole shed roof on end but now, to accommodate ground height differences, it will sit 3 feet beyond the last set of poles.
Will the chickens have access to that?I also built a raised garden nearest the pole shed to accommodate coop/run compost.

I was also going to ask about the plastic...Will the chickens have access to that?
Why the plastic?
Oh, sweet dock, BTW!
