Author Anne McCaffrey has died :(

Pern was a wonderful world to visit and her writing made it seem as real as our world
She was the master of fantasy writing.
The Dragonriders will live forever in her words......................

She has gone between and her Gold has invariably followed her. The people and dragons of Pern mourn. I have read almost everything she wrote. I loved the world of Pern. This is a great loss to the literary world.

I second all these opinions. She created a distinctive and marvelous world in Pern, with believable characters that you took to your heart. I was not as fond of her more science-fiction series (Ship that Sang, etc.), but they were good, I just prefer fantasy.

We've lost several greats in the last few years: Madeleine L'Engle, Robert Jordan, JD Salinger, Michael Crichton. I'm sure I've missed some.

Anne McCaffrey is my favorite author. In my youth, she provided me with a wonderful retreat from reality (tough times in my family) but with real people in worlds she made real.

I am terribly saddened at her passing, but I know she's been ailing for some time. I have all of her books in a special collection, next to Madelaine L'Engle's. (Separate shelves from those holding Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Robert Silverberg and Larry Niven novels.)

Oh, but I loved her work! I may have to start through them again....

I also loved all her books. But, I don't care too much for her son Todd's books. To me he doesn't write very well

He's not to his mother's level, but his writing is far superior to most of the junk on the sci fi market these days that is ok for kids to read. I have no problem with my 14 y/o taking any of the Dragonriders of Pern books and curling up to read them or reading them out loud to siblings. I will NOT let her read the Twilight series as there are NO morals or values in that series that I wish her to believe in or find to be a good idea.

A great loss to literature.

Both my sister and I read most of her novels. I still have them, torn covers and all, and occassionally revist them when I don't have anything new to read, and I still enjoy them even as an adult.

I haven't read any of her son's work as far as I recall - so can't really say one way or the other on that matter.
Sad to hear that she's gone.

All of the the dragons have gone between to pay final respects. But not to worry, they'll be back before Threadfall. Good-bye Anne McCaffrey!

This saddens me more than I released it would. Anne McCaffrey was a good friend to me growing up, at some of my saddest and lonelier times as a teenager, all I needed was one of her books to make me feel better. My heart and prayers go out to her family at this time.
