I think @Melky is talking about an automated welcome message. That you create and set to be posted to new member introduction threads.

Personally, I feel that defeats the personal aspect of a welcome response

We have an automated "welcome PM / Conversation" to new members, but other than that, we'd like to have all other interactions be as genuine, unique, and personable as possible... especially in the new-member introductions section.
