Automatic Waterers

Does anyone use those cup type automatic warters that I see in the chicken catalogs? Do you need to run plumbing to them or can you use a garden hose. Any Suggestions? I know they will freeze in the winter but I would like to explore something that could be checked ever couple of days so we can plan a few more escapes this next year.

Yes those are the one in the various catalogs. Are they hard to set up?

I use these

Which are feed from a water tank that collects rain water. The smallest one is about 8" diameter but in therory enough for 100 hens. I use 2 so there is always a back up in case one stops working. The water tank needs to be just higher than the height of the bottom of the drinker.

Or you can have these that hold 30 litre

They are not difficult to set-up. There is a good thread from a couple of years ago on ez-BYC with good instructions. I can't seem to find the link though right now.

I use the 7 ,5, and 3 gal waters.I just got a deal on them by trading a couple of old deer stands for them .I think I got a good deal on them.They are the octagan shape with the cone like on top and the tray on bottom.
