You need to resize them, to I think, 100 x 100. You can do this in "paint".

Go to frequently asked questions. Go down to Avatars and they have a link to a program called shrink me or something like that. Hit the make avatar option and follow instructions. After it is the right size 100x100 save it and give it an easy name. Then go back to BYC and add the avatar you saved.

I have no problem with my face on the internet but I don't take photos of myself. Pictures of me contain animals I have hunted and or fish. Some folks don't like my subject so I restrict my freedom of expression so they aren't 'offended' that I live off the land.
