Average ratio (hen/roo) that expected on straight run chick order?

To my experience it really depends on what breed and who you get it from. If it is a hatchery and you want a rare breed, chances are most of them are roosters. If it is from a breeder and it is just plain what hatched out, you have a 50/50 chance. The difference is that some hatcheries have a lot of spare roosters due to the high demand for pullets, so if it is straight run, especially in "packages" or "assortments" or a rare breed, you're going to get a lot of roosters.

And if it is feedstore, I know my luck was mainly males. Even with ducks. I think it is the leftovers the seller didn't want.

If you order straight run, and get all roosters, you have been cheated, and this should be brought to the attention of the forum here, and the supplier should be boycotted, as well as reports to the state and federal consumer and agriculture agencys.
