Hi all, so I took my little Joey (Embden x something goose) to the vet who suggested avian flu or something viral might be what's wrong with him.

Does anyone have any experience with avian flu in geese? My goose has some symptoms, but not symptoms that I would think are common. He hasn't been coughing, sneezing, or wheezing. He also hasn't had diarrhoea consistently.

Where are you located (state, country, not exact?) There have been reports of avian influenza in migrating birds in states along the east coast and a few others inland, such as turkey and broiler farms in IN and KY. What symptoms have you seen so far? There is no treatment for AI, and it is a reportable disease. Your state vet can help with testing.

Hi, I am so very happy to report that Joey has made an absolutely miraculous recovery!

I live in South Africa, Western Cape.

The symptoms that we experienced was very high lethargy, very dizzy (couldn't stand up/walk/sit down for a few days, he didn't want to eat very much and he REFUSED to drink water. Shivering, pale, glazed looking eyes, staring off into nothingness, couldn't put his head under his wing, (what looked like) muscular spasms/seizures, dragging wings and falling over (when he was strong enough to walk). I think that he was feverish (very hot beak and feet, then very cold). Also, after I made this first post, he started coughing/sneezing (infrequently).
