Avian Pox?

my roosters have the pox. I don't see symptoms in the hens. Should I vaccinate all that are not showing the pox to stop the spreading? Or We are doom and just need to wait to see what happens. I want to hit myself with the door. I got the vaccine 2 weeks ago and didn't vaccinate because I had just hatched some eggs and wanted to vaccinated all together when the babies were a bit older. So the vaccine is in my refrigerator ....agrrrrr....I'm so angry with myself.

This is so funny. I think we have this in our hen house now. I will let them run the course especially if it will give them natural immunity. It sounds just like human CHICKEN POX! LOLOLOL! Sorry - but hilarious.

Thanks for the picture posting. Two of my girls look exactly like that so I am comfortable with everyone's diagnosis. Thanks - what an awesome resource!

I just bought araucanas and they gave me one free because it lost an eye due to pox. She is tiny! Will she continue growing and how does it effect them before they start laying?

I can't answer your question about her development but did want to add to this old thread because your post was more recent. We have been battling pox since August. Almost all of my 22 chickens ranging in age from 5 mos-1 year have now had it although a couple I am not sure about. It was easy with them, their egg production dropped off (but it was really hot then, too) but one poor orpington has gotten it and it has progressed & she looks terrible & I am now syringe feeding her. I have been dousing the crustaceans which are all over her face although none protrude like I have seen some pictures. Her whole comb is one black crust, her eyes are crusted over & her beak has black near the top & inside. All my chickens free range & eat organic feed. I am praying we don't lose this girl because she is one of the kids' favorites but its weird how the others didn't hardly get it at all & she is looking like she'll die from it. without serious intervention. Just wanted to add that to the discussion in case anyone else finds this thread searching on this subject.
